Using Zoom with your course

Zoom integration with Canvas (Zoom LTI Pro)

Thayer Computing creates a Zoom meeting for every course offering.  The meeting can be used for the class to meet fully remotely, for individual students to remotely join an in-person class, or for a guest speaker to join remotely. The course instructor is the owner of the meeting. It is created with reasonable default settings.

Joining a course Zoom meeting from a computer

Navigate to the Canvas course page.  Click the "Zoom" link in the course's left navigation column (The position of the Zoom link might vary for your course.)

Joining course Zoom meeting from the classroom

To join your course's Zoom meeting from a classroom, tap the "Zoom" button on the AV touch panel. The AV system will recognize the course and offer to join the meeting.

Allow Guest Access

To prevent uninvited people from interrupting a meeting, by default meeting participants must join with their Dartmouth account. In order to allow an external (non-Dartmouth) guest speaker to join a meeting, a host or alternative host can add an exception.

Note:

The guest attendee must have a pre-existing Zoom account associated with their email address.

The Authentication Exception must be created before the Zoom meeting is started.

To add an Authentication Exception, click on the meeting title on the Zoom page for the course.

Near the bottom of the page, click the "Edit this Meeting" button.

In the authentication section, click "Add" next to Authentication Exception.

Enter the guest speaker's name and email address.

Click save.

Click the "Save" button at the bottom of the page.
