Code 42 Backup
Thayer School uses the Dartmouth IT Service's CrashPlan desktop backup service for backing up Staff and Faculty data on all Thayer owned computers.
Installing
Mac CrashPlan Setup
To install and configure CrashPlan:
- Go to the CrashPlan page in the Dartmouth Software Center application on your computer. (It will be labeled "Thayer Code 42" and have no icon).
- Click the "Install" button.
- After installing, CrashPlan should start automatically. If it doesn't, you can launch it from the Applications folder.
- Enter your netID@dartmouth.edu for your username. (You may need two authenticate through Duo)
- CrashPlan should start backing up your computer.
If everything looks good, then you should be all set! If you are at all unsure about whether or not it was set up correctly, please reach out to us so that we can make sure your computer is backing up properly.
Windows CrashPlan Setup
CrashPlan may already be installed ... check the Start menu. If you only need to setup CrashPlan skip to step 4, otherwise to install and configure CrashPlan:
- Launch the Software Center from the Windows Start menu.
- Select "Thayer Code 42...", and Click the "Install" button.
- After installing, Code 42 needs to be launched from the Windows Start menu
- Enter your netID@dartmouth.edu for your username. (You may need two authenticate through Duo).
- Code 42 should start backing up your computer.
If everything looks good, then you should be all set! If you are at all unsure about whether or not it was set up correctly, please reach out to us so that we can make sure your computer is backing up properly.
Recovering data
You can recover data using the CrashPlan desktop application or, for smaller amounts of data, using the CrashPlan web interface.
