Microsoft Outlook Modern Authentication

Modern Authentication In Microsoft Outlook

Dartmouth College is improving email security by enabling modern authentication through Dartmouth BWA (Office 365). Modern Authentication is supported in Outlook 2016 or newer. If your computer is running a version of Outlook / Microsoft Office older then 2016 you will need to upgrade or use BWA to access Dartmouth email.

Windows Users

Thayer Owned Computers

If your computer is owned and managed by Thayer Computing you should not have to take any action. Your computer may be running Office 2013. If this is the case we have remotely patched the system so you should still not have to do anything to enable Modern Authentication. You can identify a Thayer owned computer by its silver asset tag sticker that says "Thayer School of Engineering" on it with a four digit number".

Personal / Non Thayer Computers

If you personal laptop / desktop is running Office 2013 or older, Dartmouth provides full time paid faculty and staff, as well as students access to desktop Office apps through Office 365 (More commonly known as BWA). You can download a copy via this link: Office 365

Step 2: You will be brought to the screen below. Click Install Office in the upper right of the screen. You will then need to run the downloaded application (this should be in your downloads folder).

Step 3: This copy of Office should automatically be activated. Microsoft also provides these installation instructions
