Sharing Class/Panopto Recordings

Professors and other administrators sometimes want to share their classroom video recordings with others outside of their class. While in certain cases this may be ok, we want to make sure that the implications of FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) are acknowledged and understood before sharing. FERPA protects students' right to privacy, and one of these protections include making sure that there are no PII (personal identifiable information) in videos that are shared to outsiders of the class. This includes any audio of students and/or images of students (even from a back angle) that were recorded. If you are unsure, it may be better to err on the side of caution or to contact us for clarification.
