Introduction to Computing Services

Our Mission

Thayer School Computing Services supports all computing needs of the Thayer School community, including faculty, staff, graduate students, and undergraduates. Some services we provide are specific to Thayer School users. These include:

  • Zoom/Canvas automations to support classes and people connecting with each other
  • Technology support for remote teaching, remote learning, and remote working
  • File service
  • Computing labs (general purpose and special purpose, Windows and Linux)
  • Virtual Computer Lab
  • Printers and scanning
  • Desktop/laptop computer support (including purchase, troubleshooting, repair, software installation, configuration)
  • Engineering applications and licenses
  • Linux compute servers
  • Lecture recording
  • Classroom technology integrations
  • Student project and lab support
  • General computing support as needed

Other services (including network, phone, email, calendar, VPN, Learning Management System, Student Information System, directories, VoIP, and network television) we provide in collaboration with Dartmouth's central Information Technology and Consulting (IT&C). We actively seek ways to work with IT&C to avoid duplication of effort.

Getting Started

If you haven't done so already, you need to claim your Dartmouth account and set your password and at myaccount.dartmouth.edu/welcome.  In order to do this, you will need your NetID. You can also use the link in your welcome email.

You should also enroll your cell phone in Dartmouth's Duo two-factor authentication program in order to access services like email and VPN.

If you did not receive or lost your welcome email, you can find your NetID at lookup.dartmouth.edu .

Student Owned Computers

  • The Dartmouth Computing Store sells computers, software - including Windows and Mac OS, and peripherals at discounted prices to current students.
  • Students can purchase computers through Dartmouth or on their own.
  • We recommend that students' computers run Windows 10 (not Windows 8) on a PC, or macOS 10.12 or newer.
